Rabb, Theodore K. "If Charles I had Not Left Whitehall, August 1641"
Divergence: 1641 CE
What if: Charles and nearby family members died when plague reached London.
Summary: Essay which speculates that Charles's daughter Elizabeth would have become queen and instead of icivil war and a brief Cromwellian republic, England would have instead seen compromise and a Germanic ruling family in years to come. In the century to come, however, what becomes of political thought without the works of Locke and Hobbes?
